Onelio Garcia, Jr., MD, FACS

Diplomate, American Board of Plastic Surgery

Dr. Garcia is a board certified plastic surgeon who specializes in cosmetic surgery. In 1985 following extensive training in general surgery and plastic surgery at University Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida, he founded "Plastic Surgery Center of South Florida" devoted solely to cosmetic surgery. Since that time he has performed over 10,000 plastic surgery procedures.

The Doctor is very active academically and has received the prestigious "Recognition Award" for continuing education in plastic surgery from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the "Certificate of Advance Education in Cosmetic Surgery" from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He is a voluntary assistant clinical professor in the division of plastic surgery at the University of Miami School of Medicine and has served as visiting faculty in plastic surgery at University Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida. His work has been published in nationally and internationally recognized plastic surgery journals and he has lectured extensively on various plastic surgery topics, nationally and abroad.

Dr. Garcia has served as president of the Miami Society of Plastic Surgeons, currently serves on the board of directors of the Florida Society of Plastic Surgeons and participates in committees of the national plastic surgery society. He is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Lipoplasty Society of North America, American College of Surgeons and numerous other national and international plastic surgery societies. He is the chief of Plastic Surgery at Palmetto General Hospital ranked as one of the top 100 hospitals nationally in its class.

On the personal side, Dr. Garcia enjoys fine art, travel and outdoor sports, particularly golf. He has served on the board of directors of a major South Florida hospital for many years and supports several charities in the South Florida community.

The Consultation Process

Your initial consultation involves a personal discussion with the surgeon regarding your specific interest in cosmetic surgery. An examination follows to determine if you are a suitable candidate to undergo the procedure you are considering. Often, you will have an opportunity of review videotapes, literature and photographs to further enhance your education on the subject. After the medical portion of the consultation is completed, our patient coordinator will meet with you to discuss all the administrative issues related to the surgery. You will be provided with a detailed written proposal outlining the cost of the procedure you are considering. Should you desire to proceed with your plans for cosmetic surgery, the coordinator will then discuss available surgery dates and arrange for pre-operative photography as well as an additional "question and answer session" with the surgeon.

About Our Center

Plastic Surgery Center of South Florida opened in 1985 following extensive design by a noted hospital architect. This fully equipped, state of the art facility was designed to provide the utmost in comfort and safety for the cosmetic surgery patient. Our surgical suite and recovery area possess the latest in anesthesia and monitoring equipment. The center currently enjoys full certification from the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities (AAAASF) to perform the full spectrum of plastic surgery procedures. Our director of anesthesia services is a fully trained physician anesthesiologist with over 20 years experience in the field of plastic surgery.
