Show Off the Results Of Major Weight Loss
Losing a significant amount of weight for health or appearance reasons is admirable. Unfortunately, many people are dismayed to find that, at the end of their weight loss journey, excess skin conceals their hard-earned results. What has happened is that their skin and tissues lack adequate elasticity to shrink down over their reduced body shape.
Smoother and Firmer Body Contours
Body contouring surgery after major weight loss is designed to remove excess saggy skin and fat. This surgical procedure allows the surgeon to sculpt the tissues for a smoother, firmer and more attractive physique. Body contouring isn’t one procedure, per se. It is a blanket term for procedures that include body lift, breast lift, arm lift and more.
Getting rid of excess skin is advantageous in a cosmetic and a health sense. It uncovers the body’s smaller shape, making the results of weight loss more visible. And, it’s helpful for people that struggle with constant irritation, skin rashes and difficulty cleaning the creases created by the excess skin. Many people also find it easier to exercise and play sports without the excess skin getting in the way.
Dr. Onelio Garcia Jr. offers a full selection of body contouring procedures at his plastic surgery practice. He will work with you to put together a plan of treatment based on what you hope to achieve through body contouring.
Procedural Details
The procedures included in the treatment plan, as well as the timing, are discussed with Dr. Garcia during consultation.
Surgery is usually performed at Dr. Garcia’s fully accredited surgical center or hospital. Prior to the operation, anesthesia is administered for a painless and safe surgical experience.
Body lift is the most common body contouring procedure after major weight loss. A circumferential incision is made around the lower waist to remove the apron or belt of excess skin and fat. This improves sagging and laxity on the buttocks, abdomen, waist, hips and outer thighs.
Many women opt to have breast lift performed to elevate sagging breasts on the chest wall. The breast lift incision is typically made around the edge of the areola, extending to the breast crease and horizontally along the crease. Excess skin is removed and the tissue is reshaped higher on the chest. Enlarged and downward-pointing nipples are corrected if necessary. Implants can be placed to increase breast size and enhance the overall shape of the breasts.
Arm lift concentrates on lax, sagging skin on the upper arms. The incision is made in the natural folds of the skin on the inside or back of the arm. Excess skin is removed and the underlying tissue is resculpted for a firmer contour.
Thigh lift focuses on improving the contour of the upper thighs. The incision is made in the groin and sometimes extending down to the knee along the inner thigh. Through the incision, excess skin is removed and the underlying tissues are tightened for a firmer and smoother thigh contour.
