Botox

Botox is a neurotoxin that is commonly used to minimize noticeable frown lines, brow furrows and crow’s feet around the eyes. It pinpoints the muscles that contract and produce wrinkles and lines. When injected, Botox blocks the facial nerve signals, temporarily freezing the muscles so they cannot contract. As a result, the overlying wrinkle or line softens. The number of injections depends on the specific area being treated and the severity of the wrinkles, but is usually between two and five per area. Botox results typically last between approximately four months, on average.

Dysport

Dysport is another neurotoxin similar to Botox. Like Botox, it blocks the nerve signals and relaxes certain facial muscles that contract and produce wrinkles. Some clinical studies indicate that Dysport works faster and may last longer. Dysport is also slightly cheaper than Botox. Recent studies suggest that it may take effect slightly sooner than Botox. It usually provides a “softer look” and lasts about the same as Botox.

Juvederm

Juvederm is a dermal filler product that smoothes mild to moderate lines and facial folds. It is often used to fill in under-eye hollows, enhance the cheeks and plump up thin lips. With treatment, the skin and features look softer and naturally full. Juvederm is made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring substance that acts like a “cushion” underneath the facial structures. Results with Juvederm treatment typically last about nine months to a year.

Restylane

Restylane is another hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler. It is commonly used to soften moderate to severe lines and folds, including nasolabial folds, and add youthful contours to the face. Results typically last about six to nine months.

Sculptra

Sculptra is a dermal filler made of poly-l-lactic acid. It is designed to replenish lost collagen to keep skin smooth and youthful looking. Sculptra corrects shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds. Results can last up to two years but full correction may require a series of injections.

Voluma

From the Juvederm family of products, Voluma is the first filler approved to enhance cheek volume and shape. It is typically used on individuals that have lost fullness in their cheek area due to age, and desire plumper contours. The product also adds a slight lift to the cheeks. Results can last up to two years.

Perlane

Perlane is a member of the Restylane family used to treat more severe facial folds, wrinkles and lines that benefit from a deeper point of injection. The results of Perlane treatment can last six months to a year.

Fat Grafts

Fat grafting involves removing surplus fat from another area of the patient’s body and injecting it into thin or flat areas that need volume. Patients love fat grafting because the results are soft and look very natural. Learn more about fat grafting.
